Read an article in the Oregonian about a sweet rooster who lost his hen wife to a hawk attack. He tried to save her and got badly wounded. He was so depressed the owner took him back home from the ranch where the rooster and hen had been staying. Now the neighbors are complaining about the crowing and the rooster will be sent away again.
The story moved me so I offered to do a portrait of the chickens for the owner. In December 2014 we drove to her small town west of Portland and it was an emotional presenting of the painting. She got: a picture of her dear bird, encouragement, and support. I got: to help another person through art, to see a new part of the state, to hold a chicken for the first time. Andrew got: fresh caught salmon.
