Been reading a lot of Chris Ware recently. Building Stories is a collection of a dozen pamphlets, books, booklets, and boards all showing pieces of one big story and contained in a boardgame type box. It's hard to call it a book or a novel.
The central character is a woman going through stages of her life. The way she talks and acts makes her seem like a genuine, believable person. Maybe she's a little too true to life because Ware includes even those times where she is stressing and complaining over life's little problems. Sometimes I see myself in those whiny moments. The issues the character faces in her 20s are things that I have and am currently experiencing.
Reading Building Stories was part of PNCA's Wintersession class. Below is my response to the story in the style of Ware's crazy comic flowcharts.
