Trip to Zoo Part Two

A few more sketches from the Oregon Zoo.

I couldn't help but start humming "The Lion King" as I drew these guys. They were another crowd pleaser. The profile of a lion's face is a lot boxier than you'd think.

This guy stayed so still we thought he has fallen asleep with his eyes closed. When he came up for air, he pulled his long jaws straight up, and I could see they tapered to a point. I had been drawing the jaws as rectangular in shape when in fact they were triangular. Observation. The things you learn when you actually look.

Its impossible not to mimic this guy's face when you're drawing him. As I worked, some photographers came up snapping pictures of the chameleon. Then they moved behind me and continued snapping- I think they were trying to get a shot of me drawing?

The cryptic message written in pencil was found on a stone mural in these birds' habitat.
