One Lucky Bride is a 32 page romantic comedy currently in production. Its a remake of the 1925 silent film Seven Chances starring Buster Keaton. In my version, Sara, a young entrepreneur on the verge of bankruptcy, discovers she is heir to a cool $700,000,000. The catch? She has to get married by 7:00 pm that evening! Will she get up the courage to propose to her longtime crush Daysha? Will things get completely out of hand? Follow along!
Here are the first couple of pages, but follow One Lucky Bride's tumblr site for new pages as they become available.
I'm a big fan of silent films and this one is a favorite because of the simple sweet storyline and of course the heart stopping stunts Buster Keaton is famous for. In my version, I have modeled the main character partly after Buster, retaining the unsmiling deadpan expression and patient endurance of ever more ridiculous situations. The love interest now has a more active role in the story, steering clear of that "damsel in distress" role that was all too common in that era of cinema. The story climaxes with a chase scene involving hundreds of angry would-be brides, giving me the chance to draw tons of wedding dresses of all styles!
Since the original film was pretty short, I'm keeping my version to 32 pages and plan on publishing it in a floppy comic book format. If there's a lot of interest in the work, I may consider putting it on Kickstarter, but that's an option I'd have to research more.
