You meet a pigeon on the street who looks tired and hungry. What will you do? Feed it? Kick it? Or just walk on by? Choose wisely- your world may never be the same.
This is Pigeon of Destiny, an interactive storyline comic in the style of “Choose Your Own Adventure” novels. Growing up, I always enjoyed those old CYOA books from the 70’s and 80’s. It was like a game to try and find every possible story ending, and the books kept me reading for hours. I wanted to see what that type of story format would look like as a comic. Pigeon of Destiny is that experiment. Though the storylines are simple, I got an appreciation for the organization that goes into making one of these.
At 36 pages, it’s a quick story. But to get the 11 endings, you’ll have to do multiple readthroughs. The entire comic is free to read on its website, and starting in late August 2017 I will have printed copies available on my Etsy shop.
(On a sidenote, I should mention that “Choose Your Own Adventure” is a copyrighted term. The generic term for this format of story is “gamebook” or “interactive literature”. To my knowledge, I haven’t seen the format applied to comics yet, so I will name it “interactive comic”.
