JuliaHutShop to release line of enamel pins based on famous silent film actors
Project is currently funding on Kickstarter until March 16, 2019
Pins are hard enamel and feature caricatures of actors such as Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin, and Josephine Baker
Initial goal was met within first 36 hours and project is advancing through its stretch goals
Union City, NJ - The independent artist studio JuliaHutShop, run by illustrator and comics artist Julia Hutchinson, is creating a set of enamel pins based on famous actors of the silent era. Julia, a longtime fan of silent movies, is funding the project through the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter and hopes to bring awareness to an often overlooked chapter of cinema history:
“The idea for this project rose from a desire to call more attention to the talented actors and film makers of early American cinema. I have narrowed it down to nine stars whose storytelling abilities, innovation, and perseverance have shaped the world of the silver screen.”
-Julia Hutchinson, from the Silent Film Stars Enamel Pin Kickstarter Project Page
The pins will be hard enamel, measuring approx 1.5”-2” tall and will feature a sepia color palette with copper metal to recall a vintage look. The project launched on February 14th and had an initial goal of $1,100 to fund the creation of the first two pin designs, Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin. After the initial goal was reached within 36 hours, the project entered its stretch goals phase, unlocking a new pin design with every additional $500 it raised. Stretch goals include funding a pin for Josephine Baker, Harold Lloyd, Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, Sr., Anna May Wong, Rudolph Valentino, and Clara Bow. If funding reaches the $4500 mark, all nine pins will become available to backers to choose from when the campaign ends March 16. Pins are expected to be made and shipped to backers by July 2019.
